    Chat platform trial

Following on from June's monthly update, we are going to trial using Discord as our only community chat platform for 2 weeks. On Friday 23rd August TeamSpeak will be disabled (just in time for the game night). We've talked about it for a long time and had many arguments about either side of the debate. It is finally time to put it to the test. Personally I think it's the best chance of community expansion we have at the moment, so let's see how things go.

    Join @ https://discord.gg/pTF7665

A community meeting will be held in Discord on Saturday 31st August at 7PM half way through the trial where thoughts can be shared in public debate.

See you on the flip-side gamers!

    Servers
We still currently have a Mordhau server up and running. It has remained stable from a technical point of view, however we agree that the player stats are lower than originally anticipated at this time.

The server resource itself can be reassigned to any game that you wish (providing the setup requirements are reasonable). Please put forward any suggestions either in the shout-box or create a thread if you’ve got something that you’re a bit more passionate about.

    Member of the Month
Congratulations to Jamie! He’s our member of the month for his continued efforts in the encouragement in the community progress both in private and public scenarios. We encourage any feedback in a constructive format to be sent our way for continuous development and improvement of the experiences we can provide.

We would like to see more examples of that passion and attitude on the forum!

    Weekly Game Nights
The weekly game nights are now being fully managed within the Outbreak calendar. As a courtesy, the events will still be posted in the events section with a URL to the calendar event.

We have listened to feedback about how they should be operated and have decided that the event organiser will attend the event to be the point of contact and moderate the channel if necessary.

We would also like to remind everyone to use the RSVP button within the calendar event to let the organiser know who’s likely to be around. “Maybe” is better to us than no response at all!

    OB Merch
Although this was discussed last time, it’s clear that the opinion is overwhelmingly against official community merchandise right now. Never say never!

    Community Meeting
We’d like to invite you all to another mass meeting which will be held in TeamSpeak on Thursday 1st August @ 7:30PM

This will give anyone an opportunity to discuss anything they want with Members & Staff. It usually results in people playing some games afterwards too.

  3. OK rather than having a domestic like deranged orphans that have been thrown out of THE DIRTY HACKER's hospice, why don't we all just have one big ol' community discussion on TS again and then play some games after that?

Haven't talked to many of you for a while. Let's catch up. Admittedly I have not been a role model for turning up to events recently, which looks awful as I marketed myself as the enthusiastic man trying to save OB from capsize. It's been a weirdly busy patch for me at the moment, I think I'm now coming to the end of that - Last week I got hit with an out of hours job after work because the other guy in the office double booked himself (changed 2 UPS units for those that want the nitty gritty). Friday had me pinned for family meal, and yesterday I was invited to drink all day at a festival.

For now I'm sat here with me new CPU ready to give it a burn in. So I can't wait to play worms with it.

  4. To finalise my yearly updates:

AMD is releasing their new 3rd gen, Zen 2 CPUs on July 7th.

The bit you need to know: Rumour has it they are faster on single core performance than Intel (previously Intel stuff has ALWAYS won here), faster on multi-core  (AMD Ryzen usually wins here) AND they are going to be cheaper than the Intel counterpart.

If all the above is true, there is no reason you'd buy an Intel CPU other than you don't wanna fork out on a new motherboard. And if you still want to be an Intel fanboy you bet they'll be dropping prices around the end of July to compete. Good for customers.

    • RAM has returned to normal pricing - in my head that's been £40 for 8GB
    • SSDs are ludicrously cheap - 120GB SSD a year ago would have been around £70, they are now ~£20
    • GPUs have come down in price because Bitcoin died off

If you are thinking of building a new PC, July/August is the best opportunity for the last 5 years to do it!

I've been following Ryzen from day one, and we're about to see the results of AMD's efforts. Support them to keep the CPU market competitive.

  5. Yeah @MiniColossus I also hate it when people keep moaning about the same thing.

Your input for the last few months is you telling mainly me how much you hate me moaning about wanting Outbreak to progress in a different way. I've got some advice for you, unless you've got ideas for the direction of this community that help the cause, don't bother posting.
