Following discussion among the staff team, it has been decided that the current moderation hierarchy will be overhauled so as to better suit the needs of the community.
    Ranks
For a long time, the staff team has been broken into varying levels of power: Moderators, Senior Moderators, Admins and Head Admins. Each role carried unique access and permissions to various elements of the community as well as different areas of responsibility.
These roles are now going to be abolished, replaced with a single role: Staff
The aim of this new role is to equalise opportunity across the whole moderation team to give more freedom to any individual looking to help develop a part of the community, as well as sufficient tools to carry out their regular duties. Some members may still be given more access depending on their role within the team (for example, server developers will have access to servers etc.), but all roles will remain as Staff.
    Partners
Along with the ranking overhaul will come the addition of a new role outside of the staff team. This will be known as Partner.
Partners will have access to many elements of the community with only a restrictions, allowing freedom in their developments. They will not have traditional moderation responsibilities, but must be providing a service to the community (server development, forum development etc. but can also include moderating if there is nothing else to be working on at the time).
We feel that the introduction of the partner role will allow the responsibility of running Outbreak to be a shared operation, bringing with it some enriching qualities to break free from the stuff you guys are used to seeing.
Our first Partner will be a long standing member @Mintlou and we hope working with him will help us do more for the community together.
    Community Meeting
We will be doing a another Community Meeting update tomorrow at 6PM (BST) All are welcome to come and give ideas/suggestions etc of what you want to see from the community. Some of the things that we discussed in the latest Admin meeting and would like to bring up is:
    Discord Events Servers
Any member wanting to do anything in the community only needs to come and speak to us, we will try to support your idea any way we can. The changes to the team will happen tonight, and a community meeting is being held tomorrow night so that any questions can be answered about the changes. We hope to see you there; Outbreak is nothing without the input of the members, so please come and engage!

Note: This is not the monthly update - that will be coming after the community meeting on the 8th.

Mintlou wants to see this community thrive like it once was, hes more than happy to help and his tech knowledge is what you guys need, let him have some power to make things happen, he will keep up with trends, have servers up in days rather than weeks, he just needs conor to give him access and he will be all over it.

And as much as i hate to admit it, we kicked up a fuss about it, but for us to advance in the future we need to move to discord.

There's a few main reasons for the lack of communication in the past month:
-The staff team have been fairly busy with irl events (exams, family etc.) meaning it's been difficult to actually be productive - This is my fault that I didn't communicate this and I'm not trying to justify the lack of updates etc., but I'm more trying to point out that communication hasn't been less active out of apathy/laziness, its just been difficult to actually any posts of substance
-I haven't been involved with server development so I haven't had the information to give. I was under the impression that someone actively working on the server would be making the post, but perhaps there was miscommunication there - my understanding as of now is that development is slow due to plugin updates.
-Update posts used to be run monthly: its been exactly a month since the last one, so one will be coming out this month (keep in mind that monthly doesn't necessarily mean on the exact same day every month). I thought this would be a good system to start with as people seemed to be happy with it before, but if people feel they need it more frequently, I'm happy to do more
-I was planning to run another community meeting last month but as previously mentioned, staff have been unavailable for any reasonable dates. I was actually going to make a post tonight about running one on the 8th

I have still tried to answer questions in threads/chatbox that people raise, and I will always reply to any questions people have. If you're wondering why there's been no update post/community meeting etc. just make a thread or post in the chatbox and I'll respond

I feel like people are going to interpret this as a disingenuous "I've made mistakes but I promise I'm going to change guys" post - please understand that I do genuinely listen to feedback and I'm not trying to just make people think change is happening without acting on it. This month has been fairly awkward mainly due to irl situations so things should return to a more regular circumstance soon

This is a completely valid and fair point, it's also one that keeps popping up.
If you are don't have time to run a community, let people join the team who can.
I have already demonstrated that I will work to get servers up to match current trends (Mordhau 1v1 only now btw), I find it hard to continue to do drive myself to do this if we are met with this kind of response all the time.
I would like to be able to assist Outbreak do new things without it feeling like I'm working for some silent crew of people that haven't got time for it. I want to be a part of the leadership team and have a say on technical projects. That's my offer. Don't let us get to Christmas without a new server for the love of sweet Mary Jesus. There aren't many here crying out for technical strives, events, competitions or Outbreak as a whole to "progress". I'm one of the few options for it. Yeah alright you probably don't like me that much and I have moaned for about 5 years, but I can't sit here letting all this potential go to waste. It is something I am quite passionate about not letting go.
Edit: Also I forgot to mention that I have secured funding for server stuff, so hit me up if you want details about how it works. It won't come out of anyone's pockets that's for sure.

A fair amount of change has taken place within the last few weeks, so it's time for an update on the state of affairs.
    Outbreak Community Representative
Following the first community meeting, it was decided that a representative should be elected to improve communication between the staff team and members. We followed an instant-runoff vote format and I was elected as the rep (it should be noted that Akame was the actual winner of the poll, but he declined the offer so 2nd place was taken instead).
The full results can be found here:

There has also been some confusion over what this role entails, so for clarification, my main two responsibilities are (but not limited to):
    • Relaying information on the state of development within the community
-This includes updates on admin meetings, future development plans etc.
    • Managing the monthly community meetings

Remember that these are not set in stone, so if anybody feels I could change what I am doing, please do make suggestions.
    Role Changes
Congratulations to MiniColossus on his successful promotion to member and Akame for obtaining moderator, as well as Marsh, Toby, Lucy and Vodo Hazed for getting trial.
In addition, the veteran group on the forums has now been retired and replaced with 'Retired Member' - it is effectively the same, but slightly more lenient, available to 2 year old members or previous members who have been a longstanding part of the community. This allows for well known, previously active people to easily return to member once they have returned.
    Forum Updates
There have been various small changes within the forums over the past few days:
    Member of the Month
As many of you will have seen, there is now a 'member of the month' vote at the right of the home page.

This should be used to suggest a member that you think has contributed particularly well in the past month; the top votes will be considered by the staff and a member selected - keep in mind that obvious troll picks will just be discarded.
As of now, the perks of winning are purely cosmetic, appearing as a forum medal which can be displayed under your avatar:

But if there are any ideas for more substantial benefits, please make a suggestion.

    Miscellaneous
All previous warning points have been cleared (unless recent or still relevant) as to remove trivial sanctions.
Calendar information now shows on the home page to notify you of upcoming events.
Trophies and medals have now been fully implemented, with 'Veteran' and 'Years of Service' badges to showcase your time in the community (and reveal the filthy 2k16ers). Years of service badges require 20+ pieces of forum content per year to count towards the total.
    FiveM Server
Development is still in progress for the server, but there have been some issues implementing certain plugins - a more detailed post will be made about this within the next couple of weeks.
    Events
A new event schedule will now be tested to try and encourage more frequent events, following a simple alternating pattern of community choice events and staff hosted events.
The community choice events will be based on a monthly poll to decide on a game, and we hope members will be willing to help with the hosting of these in the future. (Thanks to Danny for hosting the first Worms WMD event).
Staff events will be run entirely by the admin team and game choice will be chosen on our perogative.

Had a little trip down memory lane today, and had a look at my introduction from 2012. I thought I'd make a new one in the interest of actually meeting some more corners of the community, but for reference you can see below:
Peep that completely unnecessary A Level English brag - what the fuck was I hoping for?
Anyway, I am (still) Wist, but my real name is Harry. I am now 23, and live in London. I work in Technology Resilience at Deloitte Cyber, specialising in Business Continuity and Catastrophic Recovery in Financial Market Infrastructures. In plainer English, I effectively help banks, clearing houses, brokers, securities dealers, repo dealers, payments infrastructure (and a whole host more) recover from IT failure of all stripes - minor outages to total disasters. If anyone is interested, read this story about the world's largest shipping company, Maersk, being hit by a cyber attack. It's about the kind of scale I'm aiming to combat.

Prior to working in Cyber, I studied Political Philosophy at a place called Trinity Hall. I grew up in Somerset, where my parents still live. I think I've probably served in more roles than anyone else in Outbreak: from memory, Member, Mod, Admin, Head Admin, Community Admin, Co-Owner, Owner, Veteran and now back to Member again. I will always have a special place in my heart for this community - we really are a (dysfunctional) family. I think I probably know the OGs better than most of my real friends. Between my life's ups and downs, they're usually the first to know. I definitely hope the younger generation get the same bond - it's a special thing (and probably why the OGs are such an insufferable clique if you're not 'in').

Don't have nearly enough time to game as I'd like anymore, but I seem to be playing CS:GO, Rocket League, and FTL as my 'go-tos'. I'm still running around as a fairly headless chicken trying to work out how to vaguely adult - no luck yet.

I'm conscious that some of the younger folks are getting to that near-university application stage - If you ever need a hand, just yell. I'm happy to help with personal statements or revision advice etc. etc.

Anyway, that's me. Hope to see more of you around!
