  1. @Jak I agree, this feels a lot like brexit only this time project fear is winning. Outbreak players are currently split between various official and unofficial platforms. Discord will remove the need for all these and bring everyone together. When the community is all together we can focus on creating the kind of community that is open to playing games with each other as opposed to closed off subgroups. All the difference Whatsapp chats will no longer be required because you can just use the discord mobile app. The forums shoutbox will no longer be required because discord has multiple text chat channels. The forums will no longer be required because discord allows for real time chat. I'm sure the forums can be repurposed for announcements and official communication later on. Teamspeak will no longer be required because discord provides voice chats for players to talk to each other. Players will no longer have to move through voice channels to ask players to join their games. Discord provides global chats for players to announce they're looking for people to play games with. Players that cannot join voice channels are no longer excluded from the fun because discord doesn't require players to join voice channels in order to join the chat. If you don't agree please post the benefits of staying fragmented within teamspeak, private whatsapps, the forums and the shoutbox.
  2. @Jak There is no miracle cure for the community but the better ease of access discord provides will allow players to keep up their activity and give the community a more stable step to move into the future.
  3. So we're just going to continue to stagnate just because a few people value Teamspeak over Outbreak? The community needs to take some kind of step towards change and discord is a perfect platform for us to do that.

I've been doing lots of woodcutting recently. I'm probably going to take a break but it was a good skill to train, especially on mobile because it's pretty afk.

    GCSE's 2018

I hope you guys get what you want and enjoy the next chapter in your life, whether it's a levels, apprenticeships or something else. Good luck.
  6. My bad, I'm not great at finishing stories. @Markannable left Outbreak in early 2013, a little after I became a member. We still talked to each other occasionally throughout the college year and a little into my first year at uni but since Mark wasn't really interested in Counter Strike we haven't talked in a few years. I hope he is doing well.
  7. When i started my second year at colleage I met a first year on the bus called Mark. We talked about computing as we were both studying it and the conversation moved to video games. We both played Counter Strike: Source and Mark suggested I check out the gaming community he was a member of. That community was Outbreak. Not long after this I joined the Jailbreak server that Mark told me about but I had never played Jailbreak before and quickly left as I didn't understand it. About a month later Mark told me the community was starting a Surf server, which he knew I liked. I became a regular on the Surf server but noticed more players were on the Jailbreak so I decided to give it another chance. Once I became a regular on both servers I applied for membership status. After a week trial I was accepted. Over 5 years later, many different games and game servers, plenty of different players I am still here. I'm happy to see the community has grown with waves of players and I hope we can continue to do so in the future with the move to discord and a variety of different games.
  8. When I get wifi back I shall be excited to watch. Disenchantment. Orange is the new black (although I am sceptical for the latest season) Scrubs. Community.
  9. This is a great thread, hopefully I'll come back in 1, 5 and 10 years to compare hopes and dreams to reality. 1 year. I hope to have gained a pay rise at my current job and potentially look at joining a gaming company instead of working on business software. 5 years. If all goes well with my girlfriend I would like to be engaged and thinking about marriage soon. I would have at least tried a few years in the games industry and I hope that I'd still be making games. 10 years. I would like to be married with a few kids. For my job I'd hopefully have a good programming speciality which I could expand as a consultant later on in life. Possibily in games but the pay isn't as good when you're getting older.

Congratulations Danny! I've still not got my cape but I haven't tried in a while.
  11. I really enjoyed and played a lot of the the original mod. I've had the standalone game for a while but I haven't really played much. Hopefully making it free, even for a short period, will boost the number of active players.
  12. I've had a few years of fuck ups since this thread originally went live. One fuck up was when I bashed my car into a people carrier. I hadn't been driving for long at that point and I was so scared what might happen. In the end nothing really happened, I just have a little dent in my car as a memory of that day.
  13. Waking up with a spider spider the size of a fist on top of me.
  14. It's mad that we're approaching 300 pages in this thread. Even more so when you remember we got bumped from 10 to 15 posts per page a few years ago.
  15. Fair play. I'd hope people would donate to any server that serves the community.
  16. Even without teamspeak a donation panel would be good.

You're right. There is a little wriggle left.
  18. This was actually a pretty good guess. Hopefully we'll close TS when it is released on IOS
  19. Congratulations guys. It's been cool to see a wave of OB players start, live and complete university courses over the last few years.
  20. Time to ignore football for another 4 years ?

    OB & CLWO Event

It's great to see us join together, with another community we've known for a while, for an event. I wish all participants good luck in winning.
