With the community moving to discord (most likely at time of writing)

    lolxd

how many of us go straight to outbreak-community.com/forums/ when opening this website whether its from a bookmark or just autocomplete, i can't remember the last time i saw the homepage

a shakeup + redesign might be nice but it'd be a luxury

  2. there's two axis of progress that can be made when it comes to 'making ob great again'

    1. more activities and community involvement amongst people already here

    2. growing the community

attempts at numero uno have been exhaustive and people are getting a little tired of trying to stimulate stuff that isn't gonna happen. the games nights were a good attempt and it really wasn't fair on the people who set their nights aside to manage them for no one to show up, even the people who rspvd. i know i said i'd be there or clicked the little 'going' button to just not show once or twice and im sorry guys.

remember when we are all waiting in anticipation for gtav custom servers with baited breaths thinking they would be our saviour? a server probably could've went up and it probably would've been 'successful' but i honestly dont think it would've done much for us. outbreak is separated into a few distinct interest groups with some overlap but not much. obviously itd be good times for anyone that'd actually want to play the server but outside of that the kind of people it would bring in would disproportionately flow towards a certain group and the staff team would have to quickly be filled with new people to moderate this administratively demanding new server.

if post VooDoo cs:s jailbreak was 'return of the jedi' and cs:go jb 2.0 was 'the phantom menace' then fiverp would undoubtedly be 'the force awakens' landing us knee deep in a sea of zoomers waiting in horror for 'the rise of skidwalker'

think about how the forums would look if there was a fiverp server or something like it, how the teamspeak would look, what the memberbase would look like. this isn't necessarily a bad thing but its a question of whether you'd want it or not, who wants it, how disagreements over the way things would be integrated and managed could be reconciled, where compromise is needed.

you can put up virtually any server on any game you want and grow it. want you cant do is rely solely on conor, cheese, mintlou etc to do it for you or expect it to magically grow and start returning dividends in the form of cool new people who will just wander into teamspeak.

if you want ob to be 'great' again you have to know what 'great' means

once you know what 'great' means you need to do what needs to be done to get there

that being said would anyone like to play any of these with me in the coming week

they're all free, cheap or widely owned, relatively small, easy to run and playable in medium to large groups.

I have a bag of gold stars on my desk for people who write their posts with good grammar, unfortunately I'm not able to issue any of them to you as you've lost the basic ability to write when in the state of immense disagreement with people.

like i write any better when im in agreement with people mintlou lmao

Yes I agree, discord is a good platform to grow a community, but for a community to grow and gain new players it must have something drawing them in e.g. a game. Unfortunately, there is few games these days that people actually join a community while playing the game. Furthermore, people who want the community to grow are most of the time if not always doing nothing at all to help Conor or cheese out when they are attempting to create a new server for a game. Therefore, without help from others or ideas on where to expand to, Outbreak will not grow as a community and therefore does not, at the moment, require discord...IMO.

you're talking out your ass most discord communities grow perfectly fine without gameservers

people will come for the craic like

u dont get this cos uve got shite craic

@Quinn, Why you hef to be med its only a server. At the end of the day the better side won due to majority, trying to argue otherwise is just showing your salt more more.

    Good Day ?

its having a viable way to grow the community at all ?

Correct from what you can see but what I am saying is that it WOULDN'T have affected the vote. I have seen who voted for what and the vote remained the same even after removing the random/inactive voters.

not clear from what you typed

still a massive mistake to not move

People who haven't been around in FOREVER voted for both sides. It would not have changed the ending result...

it would be stupid to say it definitely would change the result, just as stupid as it would be to say it'd not change the result

which is why im not saying either of those things

im saying because randos voted it'd be ridiculous to grandstand about how this is the choice of the community when it very clearly might not be

you can't say "WELL THIS IS WHAT THE COMMUNITY VOTED FOR" when there were more random accounts voting in the poll than difference between the two results

    TheCake, TheSwiftWolf, SmokingKitty

not gonna point fingers at people who didn't show their face in discord AT ALL yet still voted but there's a few in that list

discord isn't perfect but this community will just stay as a friends in group on ts (if thats what people want thats a different convo)

discord is completely monolithic at this point when it comes to how gaming communities are ran and grow and while teamspeak 5 will for sure be a better option from a technical aspect it will not offer the potential growth we could get from discord

Let's not make any fuss about who voted until it closes then single out the non-members in a big list, then end the post with a thinking emoji to somewhat suggest that this vote shouldn't have included those people because it didn't turn out the way you wanted it to.

you have such a fucking complex oh my god

    don't play stupid

people voted in that poll who haven't been around in FOREVER

1 or 2 votes would've swung it mintlou get off your fucking pedestal

  9. The vote is currently 26-27 with no deadline posted. How is when this poll ends decided? Who ends the vote??? How do we know they wont end it when it swings to their favour????

    also moderation suggestion:

Moving clients from voice channel to voice channel doesn't register in the audit log. Anyone with the 'Move Members' position can move anyone regardless of role, this is the same as disconnecting. The way around this is to do moderation through a bot, so everything is properly logged. Discord temp ban means the server is removed from that person's server list and they have to be given their role back when they rejoin. A moderation bot would mean that people could be temporarily muted, deafened, put into a timeout text channel where they can't see the rest of the server, lose perms to be able to join voice channels, lose perms to be able to type into any channels but still be able to read them. You'd be able to give warnings and get them back as a list. Ultimately this stuff isn't a massive issue right now as moderation isn't really needed but if Discord is used to grow the community as planned.

  10. BTW THE DEFAULT BITRATE IS 64KBPS AND THE MAX UNBOOSTED IS 96 if you dont turn it up on the channels it will be 64 for no reason lmao i really hope it got turned up it would be yikes if it didn't

(two people boosting = 128kbps bitrate, nitro is its own thing which you get perks and benefits for, the boosting was a new feature that you get if ur nitro, you get a load of games downloadable from the discord client and some stuff in various f2p games, a gif pfp, emotes and emotes from any server, like SOME PEOPLE BASELESSLY SAID they didnt turn the unboosted audio quality down once they released this feature. nitro is $9.99, i already have nitro and willl boost but its completely wasted if no one else boosts)

AT THE END OF THE DAY DISCORD =/= TEAMSPEAK and we can't use it like it is, a lot of people still dont understand the ping functionality, or how pinging roles work, or the extent of the functionality bots can add or how not being able to read channel history works

the way the lol and cs gather channels are currently setup makes them unuseable and the amount of voice and text channels is probably a contributor to people's lag in games

PLEASE SOMEONE CHECK THE CHANNELS HAVE THE BITRATE TURNED UP you have to turn it up for each channel it's a significant difference

also i get the linked voice and text channels were made to ape discord functionality but there's honestly not that much utility too it, if the server is gonna grow then the fear of LE BIG BAD CONOR SEEING ALL OUR MESSAGES or whatever needs to go and proper moderation needs to come back.

the way the discord is currently set up means perms need to tediously be changed for each channel etc and the amount of channels is really ugly

not sure about this one cheif.

people afk in voice rooms and the ratio of people needed to skip is quite large (as it should be otherwise a few people could skip everyone's songs) but when people queue shit that is 10+ minutes long and everyone has to tab out to skip when they can't be fucked its annoying

  12. Another suggestion would be to disable bot commands in the vc linked channels and make it so people have to use the bot commands channel,

it means you dont get notified for people adding stuff to the music bot and you can leave the linked channel unmuted for links and chat etc without having to hear notifications for people checking the queue adding new songs etc

  13. 12 hours ago, Oldmike said:

Trust me, music bot single handedly making the case not for discord rn in other channels

    HELLO JUST MUTE IT?#

also there are other bots which have features like fairqueue which means everyone's songs gets played

also we need the song limit to be enabled so 1 person can't queue a million things

also we need a 5 minute limit on songs that can be queued
