Britten 11 Posted July 15, 2013 Antizombie, the one and ONLY thing you should be worried about is the Freshman Hunt. He is half way through secondary school it shouldn't affect him you should do food tech I think that food tech is probably one of the worst subjects you could pick other than textiles and Child care -_- Quote Share this post Link to post
Ameme 0 Posted July 15, 2013 I think that food tech is probably one of the worst subjects you could pick other than textiles and Child care -_- Mine and UnSeens school is very basic... We don't have these fancy subjects for offer. Quote Share this post Link to post

We don't have these fancy subjects for offer. Not necessarily basic...just...our headteacher is very much about the direct subjects. Oxford, Cambridge etc... Our choices were : Geography, History, Art, Music, Business, Sport, Spanish/French, Graphics We had 4 options and 1 of them has to be a language. Our school specialises in the sciences so we have no choice in them. Our school wouldn't even consider putting textiles, child care etc...on the possible curriculum. M1nt-l0u 1,235 Posted July 15, 2013 1. Don't do a language, everyone speaks English (Ignorant but true) 2. Triple science is good, but a shitload of shit 3. DT is very good, if you're not an idiot and you can name a few tools and wood types, that's at least a B 4. OCR nationals is a waste of fucking time, don't bother, you basically have to prove you can send an email and use word 5. History is a shitload of work, like lots of work, I was too lazy to do it and picked Geography instead. Quote Share this post Link to post

JohnDoe 0 Posted July 15, 2013 lol'd But hey it ofc depends what you like, you said you like math? Pick math lol. It's different here on Iceland, after 10th grade we go into highschool, and there we have to pick paths. Such as math, physics, that stuff where you got lots of chemicals, stuff like dat. That's 1 path. Then theres one for languages, geography etc. I'd like to pick the math one because I wanna be able to apply for computer tech/programming AND arts college. So if I get denied to arts I'll go into coding. You guys have that over there? Quote Share this post Link to post
Jak 1,381 Posted July 16, 2013 No we don't John. I really admire the Scandinavian education system though. Either way, pick what the fuck you want to do at GCSE level. As long as you get above C in maths, science(s) & english then they honestly don't mean fuck all. I haven't listed my GCSEs as anything other than "13 GCSEs including maths, science & english" (even though I passed with mostly A/A*s, some Bs) for at least 5 years. All they really matter for is getting into 6th form/college or if you're looking for non-vocational work straight out of school. But obviously try to get good markis... VENGA BUS 2,027 Posted July 16, 2013 No one actually gives a shit about your GCSEs later on in life. Pick ones you enjoy/do well in, so you'll get good grades. Unless you're applying for Oxbridge in four years time or so, GCSEs aren't that big a deal. And tbh, even then, they take into account that not every 16 year old has a pushy mum telling her little poppet that Latin is a must if he wants to read Classics at Caius College. I did not one, not two, but three shitty GCSEs. Then I did other subjects at A Level, and it turns out my university didn't care at all about my stellar performance at GCSE. They just cared about the standard A level requirements. tl;dr: it doesn't even fucking matter; do what you enjoy/excel at, bearing in mind what you might want to study at A Level, and you'll be fine xoxo Quote Share this post Link to post
Tiny 16 Posted July 16, 2013 Take drama, art and french, those are extremely important GCSE's, possibly (in fact definitely) more so than maths and science or w.e Quote Share this post Link to post
