The Choosing of our Timeline

 

I believe I have left this quite a fare bit empty in terms of examples, so we will start now, and lets see if people wish to join this clusterfest of disgusting opinions & politics.

Divergences of Darkness

A massive "What-If" scenario.

What if England won the Hundred Years War, uniting the Thrones of England & France? Bringing about the strongest empire on the European Continent? 

What if Isabella of Spain didn't marry Ferdinand of Aragon? But instead, married John of Portugal, uniting the Iberian Peninsula on the Western Coast instead of the Mediterranean?

What if the King of Burgundy didn't die in battle? But instead, survived?

Divergences of Darkness take these history changing events and brings about a new history, a new world for us to stare into and realise how different the world of ours could of been if even one thing was done differently, we would be able to experiment entirely with this new world, and would offer more opportunities to us as a world we don't recognise!

The Concert In Europe

A World we recognise more, this takes us to 1821, the beginning of the South American Wars for independence, as well as major deciders for the European continent (These being the treaties that would recognise Greek & Belgian Independence) although this world will be more recognisable, with a more set history, that doesn't mean we can't start a fire and watch it burn the whole forest down.

Such as being Spain, and winning the wars of independence, and set ourselves on course to retake our empire, or build a new one!

Or play as the Netherlands, and set ourselves to keeping the United Provinces..."United"

Just like the other one, we will find plenty of opportunities to fuck with the world, and we will find just as many in the one we recognize.

Personally voting for "The Concert in Europe" as I think the game will be more relatable set in a real-world historic scenario. We take it from the real past and bring it into whatever future we like. It will also be nice to see what changes we're making to Europe compared to what really happened.

Just thought I'd give you guys a taste of the writing, so have a little content to how its going to look, although this is going to look a little more serious than how we're going to play it.

This is going to be focused on the review of the countries years, rather than the political fighting behind the scene (the shit you guys be doing) though I will write excerpts from you guys to fit into the writing, Im going to leave it to your imaginations on how thats going to go!

I'll be using the nation of Lotharingia, a south american nation in the Divergences of Darkness mod, they have a good setting at the beginning to test this. 

If theres anything you'd like to see change, such as make the writing more casual, and make the political shit-fighting more of the attention, than just say!

Lotharians: A Early History

"The lotharians are a unique neighbour to us as we marched through Charlemagne with De Aigle, I heard two tongues being spoken almost universally, the burgundian french dialect, that I have heard plenty of in my port visit in Nouvelle Amsterdam a few years back, and the more relatable tongue of Dutch, I heard these two almost blend together in its streets of endless people, I don't even know how these people hear each other"
- Excerpt from the Journal of Capt.Roger Moore, a soldier of the Beornian Expeditionary Force accompanying De Aigle to restore order to Lotharingia.

Lotharingia, after the expulsion of De Aigle, was on the verge of a return of the Burgundian Monarch to rule it from the monarchist party, during the years of republican & coalition revolts , Catholic Amazonie had marched & conquered the territory of Cóte du Café, one of the most populated, & progressive thinking states on the Amerigan Continent,, a great humiliation to the protestant Lotharian people, De Aigle was adamant in the return of Nouvelle Amsterdam back into the arms of their fellow lotharians & protestants.

Almost all of De Aigles policies, fiscally & militarily, were aimed at the requirement of the lost territory, **taxes were hiked, men were recruited into the army & state institutions were reformed and found themselves to be more efficient than ever.

It was around this time that De Aigle realised he couldn't build the republican dream he had for his people without a code to follow from, he locked himself in his room for 4 days, before calling for an assembly of Lotharingia's most prestigious men, including monarchists and reading out his new draft, dubbing it "The Rights of Man"

He also implemented new reforms to the immigration law, these would revoke the old burgundian laws of citizenship to its colonies, with it no longer restricting immigration on religion & source of revenue, and removing restrictions for citizenship. Although De Aigle's reasons politically were in line with his "Rights of Man" many historians believe that it was done more on the idea  of having more men to draft during the war, as well as dealing with the guarani natives who lived further inland, a major recipient of the more catholic/orthodox immigrants.

-An excerpt from a Ceremonial Plaque, laid in Fort Lothére's Immigration Retrieval Building back in 1836, to celebrate the new citizens.

By the end of the year, De Aigles new reforms to the Immigration policy were obviously a hit for Protestants & Catholics alike back in Europe, with them forming almost 3% of the Population in under 11 months of the New Reform.

Although the Amazonie had shown Lotharingia their ambitions for the continent with the annexation of Nouvelle Amsterdam, it was not shown with their military, they left behind a token force of around 12,000, to garrison the new province. With a new force of around 39,000 soldiers, De Aigle believed he was ready to fight the Amazonians, although the amazonians were numerically superior, with around 48,000 soldiers, De Aigle had confidence in his soldiers abilities, as well as with the tactics they had put in place.

" De Aigle was not a politician, a military man at heart,he only had to take one look at the amazonian fighting style and realise he had already won, the amazonians still fought in small skirmishes in the colonial style, De Aigles army was made for a large fight, settled for days of fighting, a new way of fighting De Aigle & his military advisors had come up with, the amazonians believed numerical superiority would let them win the war of attrition, but De Aigle was not settled for a war of attrition, he was looking for one big fight to end the war, the first style of blitzkrieg ever on the Amerigan continent"

With all these things taken to account, De Aigle would send the telegraph out on february 14, war was declared.

The army would move quickly, in  a few days, they were on the outskirts of Nouvelle Amsterdam, assaulting the 12,000 strong garrison, the siege would last for a few weeks, although a decision by the Garrison Commander, would leave a token force, while leaving with the majority of his forces.

The army would quickly seige out any militia the amazonians had managed to muster up, by July, the entirety of Nouvelle Amsterdam was flying the Lotharingian flag, cheers were heard though the streets, although the amazonians who lived there stayed quiet and behind closed curtains.

It was around  august, when the amazonian government finally dispatched a large force to deal with the lotharingian occupation, the fight that De Aigle was looking for, setting his 40,000 strong soldiers, bolstered by guarani natives, conscripted in the last few months of the war, they met the 32,000 strong amazonians, and a fierce battle ensued.

 
The fight was won by the lotharians, while the amazonians had more soldiers, they had no artillery, while the fight of rifles met off against each other, artillery made it too hard for the amazonians to keep a steady wall of fire, as such, they were forced to retreat, although major casualties were on both sides, it was clear who had one the war.

A few months went by of hunting down retreating amazonian soldiers, before the telegraph finally reached De Aigle, the amazonians had surrendered! Nouvelle Amsterdam was once more in protestant hands!

With the re-seizure of the state, De Aigle realised if he was to keep Nouvelle Amsterdam, he would have to be a lot less authoritarian in the daily citizens life, as such, he declared the entire province a "free state", free from the shackles of slavery, as well as many of the tax hikes, to create a return of order to the state.

And with that, the year of 1838 comes to an end, Lotharingia has many a year ahead of it, but now, new ideas will be coming ahead....

Now, we pick the country that we want to throw ourselves with, I have a few recommended nations that we can pick from:

Americas

United States - This is a no brainer, Early 1800's US was still struggling with an identity, though this does not mean its power is not unmatched in the region. Plenty of opportunities to cause havoc in the New world, and the Old.

Empire of Brazil - Back in the early 1820's, Brazil was still under control of Portugal, united in a Kingdom. Though, breaking free & dragging the entirety of South America under our heel, uniting the continent in our own Manifest Destiny, is not out of reach.

Mexico - United as a Monarchy, Mexico has a few options for itself, a early military powerhouse (though not as strong as the USA), Mexico has the chance to bully around its fellow Hispanic Republics, although, will have to be wary of time itself, as every year is more power to the USA.

Europe - see top picture on post for reference 

France - The strongest Land power on the European Continent, just after the Napoleonic Wars, france was polarized, and weak from the vacuum left after Napoleon. However, frances ambitions can always come creeping up.

Netherlands - Still as the United Provinces, Flemish & Walloons are looking to escape from the Netherlands grasp, although, if the netherlands has the strength to assert itself in the region, it might be able to hold power...and with the Belgian region showing British Innovation & Industrialization, who knows what could happen?

Prussia - With a chance of unifying Germany (as did historically), prussia will become the strongest power in the world later in the end game, however, whats to say that Prussia can't assert itself early on?

Russia - Pretty much can slam everybody, anywhere. Army is large enough to throw stacks of people at sieges and win everytime. Pretty much a giant.
