Fluxy 1,660 Posted July 28, 2015 Prayers are with you Lew Lew <3 Get yourself down to your local Waterstones! Im not exactly sure on where you live but you can use or easy store locator on the website! https://www.waterstones.com/ Go in and just have a browse man, there is loads of great books being published this year and loads more just coming out in paperback! its summer and its the peak time for interesting fiction. I narrowed down some suggestions for you based on what I know about you. 1. Think Like a Freak - Stephen J. Dubner, Steven D. Levitt. Its a book written by two self confessed "Rogue economists" all about the hidden maths and economics behind our lives. V interesting read, shelved under Smart Thinking. Right up your street. 2. The Global Minotaur - Yanis Varoufakis. This is one of our leading politics titles at the moment so its something I think you could really enjoy and expand your already large base of knowledge! "Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis explodes the myth that financialisation, ineffectual regulation of banks, greed and globalisation were the root causes of both the Eurozone crisis and the global economic crisis." After you got through that you can argue with conviction and confidence that you know more than the other person :) 3. A fiction title for you now. All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. Keeping with your love of history this is one of the best WW2 novels I have ever read! Interesting characters brought to life by a fantastic style and elegant prose. Pretty emotional as well. 4. The Sisters Brothers, Patrick De Witt. Shortlisted for the 2011 Manbooker Prize (Oscars for books) this isent really a recommendation just for you, I think anyone would enjoy it. Its an utterly captivating Wild West story following these two brothers who work as hitmen trying to make a life for themselves. Short but stays with you. One of those "you cant go wrong with this" 5. Satin Island - Tom McCarthy - McCarthy is a writer I think you would like Lewis, because he writes in a way that appeals to smart people. Satin Island, his latest book, is not really a novel, although is classified under fiction. Its more of an examination of daily life in the 21st century. How all these little routines we take for granted and so normalized now. The book is short and when you finish it you wont feel it has said much but it is one that benefits from a reread which is rare in the book world. While reading it you will find yourself thinking about the world in ways never before, the hallmark of a truly great writer. 6. Finally, my wild card choice you Lewis. The Land Where The Lemons Grow - Helena Attlee. This is one of the more interesting books to appear this year and surprisingly enough we have done really well with it. Equal parts travel memoir and history book on Italy's hidden past, really enlightening and really interesting. :) Quote Share this post Link to post

Wist 376 Posted July 29, 2015 Whilst Lewis asks his parents for pocket money to pay for a new psu, I'm thinking of using my pocket money to buy a 144hz monitor Quote Share this post Link to post
Lewis 1,276 Posted July 29, 2015 Some cool ideas there fluxy, next time I'm in Peterborough I'll probably pick up a few to take to Uni. Anyway: Day 4: I return from staying over at my friends, we had been to the pub and I'd drank 2 pints -> rip T-total. We were pumped to go to Mosh in Leicester until we realised there were 6 of us and it closed in 2 hours and I had no I.D on me. What have I become? The happy little global who enjoyed nothing more than carrying the lows of OB up the ranks... My friend drove me home about 15 minutes ago, we ran down the drive for the shed, no amazon package - none in the house either, we paid our respects to the broken PC, lying on my bed. The king. The king who had seen me through tens of CSGO ranks, and hundreds of total levels on RS. In 2 hours he returns to pick me up as we head to a BBQ - what is happening to me? I'm becoming social and I don't like it. I've locked my dog in the front room so I can hear her bark if anyone comes up the drive, I sit on my mums small rocking chair - hunched over trying to type to you guys, but there isn't much time. Tonight I make my return to lead team 1 to two victories - I hope. I've passed the recommended time an addict should stay away from his PC - perhaps I can't ever return. Lewis 1,276 Posted July 29, 2015 Each shit I do is becoming smaller Each sentence I say is becoming increasingly difficult to understand Each stroke I give my dog she can feel my fear Each kiss I give my girlfriend she can sense my sadness My friends sister woke up at half 6 to get ready for work - a deep sleeper I would naturally sleep through. But I was awake, awake as a fox in the countryside forest hunting a rabbit - there's no sleep for me anymore. Lesser a man I have become. "Sorry if I woke you she said" She had no idea, no idea the pains I faced. [*] Pablo the PSU Quote Share this post Link to post
