ColdMeekly<3 16 Posted May 19, 2016 Hello everyone, I had already suggested a little SnQ not too long ago, and people loved it! The action of someone just looking at your work and helping you make it better is fantastic! It makes the consumer happy and will make sure that the creator will produce higher quality content later on. My newest suggestion is: a Programming/Coding Section on the forums. Here are some great benefits that i believe the community will receive from this: People able to share code - Help each other out Sharing/help of plugins and web projects Sharing/help of advanced algorithms and unique ideas It's going to be a collection of Fun and Educational material which everyone will benefit from These are going to be real-life problems - which will engage and make people think (For those who find it difficult to work with theoretical problems) This section will engage some of the more technical minds, where maybe they will argue about what is the best way of encrypting :) Once again, it's just a short list of benefits of having such section. And it wouldn't be lost in a sea of irrelevant posts (as it would in the general chat section). Focusing on allowing people to share their creativity and inspire, especially in an ever growing community such sections are very important for interacting with more members; The more people that can get involved and can actually contribute in a helpful way, the better! Quick Example from another Forum: P.S I have included a little poll for you guys, show me (and everyone else) if you think this is a good idea or a bad idea! Thanks for reading <3 1 Gunstar reacted to this Share this post Link to post
Jamie 2,319 Posted May 19, 2016 there's like 3 people that code on these forums would barely get used Share this post Link to post
ColdMeekly<3 16 Posted May 19, 2016 (edited) People do computing/coding and some just want to learn more sometimes. This is not just for those who can already code. But also for those who want to learn. In addition to what i've said above, such sections can potentially benefit the quality of the website, and the Quality of any other application/plugin. Lurker 1 Posted May 19, 2016 I don't mind this. But as jamie said, it has a big potency to just be a ghost town section. Share this post Link to post
ColdMeekly<3 16 Posted May 19, 2016 Lurker, i understand where you're coming from. But for example, i would love to teach other people some coding skills - as many people are interested or actually need to learn some for school. And as far as that's concerned, i can only do it in the "General Chat Section". Which is only for "General Chat", and would be "lost in a sea of irrelevant posts " Share this post Link to post
Storm 84 Posted May 19, 2016 (edited) I study Computer Science and to be honest that's a good idea but as previous people have said, the section would die. There's already a topic in general chat about computer science but it's been dead for a long time. I suggest just creating a thread in which people talk about computer science in general (you can talk about all you said in your post in the thread I'm talking about). EDIT: One quick question, which elements of the OS would become useless if we could have unlimited memory? :D Edited May 19, 2016 by Storm Share this post Link to post
ColdMeekly<3 16 Posted May 19, 2016 Primary memory or secondary memory? And regarding the threads: I was hoping on doing weekly challenges, and i believe General Chat isn't the best option for that. If you would've had a programming section, i would've already posted a TON of very interesting content. people would be able to easily navigate and browse through only programming related topics. That way, even if a thread dies. It will stay inside the programming section, where as if someone is able to help/contribute, it will always be appreciated in the programming section. Storm 84 Posted May 19, 2016 Yeah I get you, I said I like the idea but it's up to the majority of the people and the admins obviously if they want that section or not. But I support your idea haha Share this post Link to post
Quinn 643 Posted May 19, 2016 It doesn't matter whether the section would get used, it would just take up space when their are much better more specialised resources on the internet. Also I can't get the server ip ok ty. -rep Share this post Link to post
ColdMeekly<3 16 Posted May 19, 2016 (edited) Chris, This isn't for everyone on the internet. This is for our Community. And in our community we all know each other, and we can all learn from each other - and share new creations/homeworks. And don't forget, you will not find any creations which meet your criteria exactly on the internet. Where as there might be some people here up for it as a hobby. To be honest, for coding you would go to another place. But that's the thing i want to change! Having our own community full of smart people and even people joining because of the coding section would be fantastic. Right now, this forum is only a place where people post "updates" like in Facebook, introduce themselves and post "Applications". But as far as I'm concerned, this is a community and in a community, you don't leave people behind. The whole point of a forum, is so that people contribute to it. And I'm sure that if it's unique content that is High Quality, the admins will love you for it. This could potentially increase the size of the community and increase the amount of revenue that this project receives. Which means that you will be able to receive a larger variety of servers for example. In my opinion. if this would've been a bad idea, or wouldn't benefit the community/project; i wouldn't of even suggested anything in the first place. I'm here to promote and make sure that this amazing community stays the best. Therefore if you believe that his would "just take up space", and that "their are much better specialised resources" - then what's the point of expanding Outbreak? Why not just go on a different Forum? Why not just go on a different server? The amount of Custom maps created (Kriss,Skeff,Gunstar), are for all of you guys to enjoy! These guys are awesome contributors, and they could've done it somewhere else. But it's this community that they want to take care of. Same as me, i want this community to have amazing help with programming/coding. Expanding the community is always a huge plus. P.S I just realized how much i had written. And i had given up using BOLD to highlight each key-point. I apologize if you're curious and want to read through it (if you're interested in this. please read the post <3), so here's a quick summary: I believe that having more content will only benefit this community. EDIT: Already in this community there are several well known people who could benefit. Skeff 289 Posted May 19, 2016 I see no point in adding a new section for this. This is a gaming forum not a coding forum. Having an entire section, especially one split into specific technologies, would be a waste of space. If you want to talk about code that is awesome, either create a general thread or post on an existing thread such as the OB comp science thread. Perhaps if those threads become popular enough the admin team can look into adding a new action but at this time it isn't worth it. If you want to do a weekly challenge just have 1 general thread, this will keep down the spam and allow players interested a chance to participate. 2 Aaron and Gunstar reacted to this Share this post Link to post

ColdMeekly<3 16 Posted May 19, 2016 Skeff, i would love to, but if anyone have any problems with previous tasks, they're going to spam all of the weeks at once. That will make it unreadable. e.g i would never read all 64 pages just to see answer to Q4 Share this post Link to post
Skeff 289 Posted May 19, 2016 Trust me, there won't be that many answers. And if someone is stuck on a previous task they can create a new thread or PM people in order to chat about it. Share this post Link to post
ColdMeekly<3 16 Posted May 19, 2016 (edited) Additionally, if there are any "answers"/spoilers then that will ruin the challenge if the person sees it. Which they will. There are tons, tons of benefits of a separate section. Skeff, before mentioning the thread here, i didn't even know that the OB Computer Science thread existed. This is precisely why i came up with this SnQ <3 Edited May 19, 2016 by ColdMeekly<3 Share this post Link to post
