Lurker 1 Posted February 3, 2016 Using a couple of software's and a few encryption key algorithims to keep my files private and safe. This is what I use: Avast - Default Antivirus, been using it after kaspersky(2003) and I'm very satisfied with their support. Malwarebytes - Different scanning algorithms that come in handy for checking virus payload. CCleaner - Cleaning junk from tempfolder and browser EaseUS Data Recovery and Recuva - I deleted something by mistake so I can get it back before it's fragmented. WinDirStat - Checks my Hard Drive speeds and consistency Disk Fraggler - Alternative for Defragmenting. Quote Share this post Link to post

Iszuka™ 10 Posted February 3, 2016 (edited) Avast! and Malwarebytes are a great pair from experience. Stay away from McAfee, AVG, Norton... It's my professional opinion that both AVG and McAfee especially are serious pieces of shit. Registry Mechanic is a great tool too, but I think they went bust. Popey456963 17 Posted February 3, 2016 Defraggler - The most effective defragging tool that I've found. Speccy - Check the components inside of your computer Core Temp - Check the temperature of your CPU. PuTTY - If you need an SSH client for windows, this is the one you should use. PC Decrapifier - Removes unwanted content from your computer. Revo Uninstaller - Actually uninstalls programs, unlike the in-built Windows one which only removes program files (sometimes leaving data files). Spybot - Removes spyware from your computer. Windows SysInternals - Some nice technical information about your computer. 7-Zip - A nice unzipping tool that unzips everything under the sun and has the lightest footprint I've seen (1MB installed). UTorrent - The best torrenter at the moment. Launchy - Save time by opening everything via the keyboard in a simple way. Bitlocker - Installed by default on Windows computers, this is an encryption program. It makes it harder for quite a few programs to take data from your computer, especially IRL threats. Resource Monitor - Installed by default on Windows systems. A useful tool for checking usage by specific programs and better than 90% of the ones available online. Action Center - Again, installed by default. Will tell you things that are wrong with your computer at the moment. Quote Share this post Link to post
Gunstar 513 Posted February 3, 2016 You looking at paid or free ones? if paid, what broadband company are you with? I am using Sky and am paying like 3 quid a month for Mcafee that comes with the package. Quote Share this post Link to post
R1sk 12 Posted February 3, 2016 For an Anti-Virus software I use ESET Smart Security. I think it retails for around £40 but I got a cheap key from G2A for £2. It's saved my PC alot of times. Quote Share this post Link to post
Iszuka™ 10 Posted February 3, 2016 Our company uses ESET Endpoint in-house. We recommend our clients either use ESET or Sophos. Symantec if they insist. Quote Share this post Link to post
M1nt-l0u 1,235 Posted February 6, 2016 Registry = CCleaner Anti-Virus = BitDefender Malware removal = Malwarebytes You'll be fine with these three softwares. The whole Piriform range is free and is top stuff. (Makers of CCleaner). Their other software includes: "Recuva" - For data recovery "Defraggler" - Disk checker and defragmenter (Don't use on SSDs) "Speccy" - Displays information about connected hardware and their temperatures Other softwares that are good: PC Decrapifier - Used to remove unnecessary junk that usually comes pre-installed on your PC. We use this for machines that come with the HP bloatware Diskmark - Used to check the read/write speeds of all kinds of drives. Error Lookup - Enter a windows error code and it gives you the fault Virtual CloneDrive - Allows you to quickly mount and use iso files Rufus - Create bootable USBs with a target iso YUMI - Create a multiboot USB with several iso files which boots to a menu selection screen CloneZilla - Clone hard drives Belarc Advisor - Finds a lot of system information, including all license keys for Microsoft, Adobe or EA products. There are loads more but those are the main goodies I can think of. Quote Share this post Link to post
