While I'm still concerned Blizz are gonna fuck it up like they fucked SC2 up that doesn't seem to be the case so far. There's always time though. What @Finnley said about skill ceiling and team contribution is 100% right. Although he got a lot of stuff wrong. In ranked it's not that people refuse to acknowledge the objective, people aren't dim enough to completely ignore the objective. It's a combination of things which contribute to an outcome. The game is relatively new. While games like LoL and CS have been around for ages and have well established metas, Overwatch is relatively new and a lot of players don't seek out the same kind of material that their LoL and CS counterparts do, and if they do it's usually relatively sparse and unreliable. Overwatch changes drastically and frequently. Characters cycle in and out of relevance quickly, playstyles change radically. The game is constantly evolving, much faster than other eSports. The game is accessible. Overwatch is very accessible, it's got an appealing narrative and characters, it's well advertised, and is popular cross-platform. This fills the Overwatch internet atmosphere with just absolute horseshit. A LOT of this games fanbase is in it for the porn. Open up the server browser you'll see lots of "RP" servers. These three things lead to a player base that is very disconnected from the competitive side, whom have very little game knowledge and understanding. They don't undervalue the objective. They just have absolutely NO CLUE what is actually good. When you lose a fight you will often have no idea why, or who's fault it is. This isn't helped by the games lack of a scoreboard, not being able to look at your teammates stats in order to find out what went wrong is damaging to the game. For the first few months of the game if you were to rollout with the exact same team that pro players used (they ALL used the same composition) then the team composition tip box that it shows you in hero select would basically tell you that your team is shit. On an unrelated note, the retarded euros you run into on this game are insufferable, I need UK only servers.
