Adam B 0 Posted March 15, 2013 Alright guys, it's time for me to upgrade my number cruncher since the one I have is getting a bit outdated. I've looked at some different components and below you can find the one's that I've picked out. I have a decent budget so I can get flashy GPU and whatnot. Alright, starting off with the motherboard, I'll be going with the ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-Crosshair-Formula-Z-Motherboard-PCI-Express/dp/B008RPZ3RA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363343771&sr=8-1). Yes, I chose an AMD CPU (inb4 intel iz betar!!1!) because of the price and after watching some benchmark videos of it being compared to the Intel i5-3570K and seeing that the results where almost identical. Everyone that says that Intel is better had the right to do so a couple of years back, now I'd say they're neck in neck. The CPU I chose was AMD FX-8350 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-FX8350-Edition-Processor-4-2GHz/dp/B009O7YUF6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363344096&sr=8-1). For the RAM I went with Kingston HyperX Beast, 16 gigabyte kit (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kingston-Technology-Series-2400MHz-Desktop/dp/B00A771ZR8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1363344177&sr=8-2). I wanted to go all out on a GPU and decided to go with the ASUS GeForce GTX 680 DirectCU II (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-GeForce-DirectCU-Graphics-Express/dp/B00A3KHR1W/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1363343721&sr=8-2) The rest of the components are pretty self-explanatory, I'll just post the links below. Case: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-HAF-USB-Case/dp/B003OESTP2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363343496&sr=8-1 PSU: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-1000W-Silent-Supply/dp/B006K2D806/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363350947&sr=8-1 Hard drive (SSD): http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Series-256GB-Solid-State/dp/B009LI7CTY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363350990&sr=8-1 Hard drive (mechanical): http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-VelociRaptor-Hard-Drive/dp/B007VPGJIY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363351028&sr=8-1 Tell me what you guys think I should change, or if there's something that I've forgotten to put on the list. Fluxy 1,660 Posted March 15, 2013 why are you getting an SSD and a disk hard drive? why not spend the money getting a larger or multiple SSDs? Quote Share this post Link to post
Adam B 0 Posted March 15, 2013 why are you getting an SSD and a disk hard drive? why not spend the money getting a larger or multiple SSDs? Well, for starters I wouldn't get the same capacity for the money if i bought several SSDs, but if I can come up with a cheap alternative for a 1 terabyte hard drive, I'll reconsider. Otherwise, I might go with another 3 terabyte hard drive, for better storage capabilities and lose the one I currently have in mind. Quote Share this post Link to post
Fluxy 1,660 Posted March 15, 2013 SSD is where to go bro im telling you. I would spend more on less storage for an SSD. Lets be honest, I used my old desktop for 4 years and I only just ran out of 600 GB, you don't really need 1TB or more. What about this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crucial-CT512M4 ... 089&sr=8-3 Quote Share this post Link to post

I have a couple of external hard drives laying around that I could use for movies so they don't take up any space on the SSDs, and I'd get two of those and run them in RAID 0. I appreciate you taking this time for me, Fluxy. :P Edited March 15, 2013 by Guest Quote Share this post Link to post
Adam B 0 Posted March 15, 2013 Accidentally posted it twice, this can be removed. (Don't want to be accused of post-whoring.) Quote Share this post Link to post
HoneyMuffin 0 Posted March 15, 2013 I'd just put Windows folders onto the SSD, maybe steam aswell That's it Rest on the HDD Quote Share this post Link to post

I suggest that you and Fluxy fight to the death and I'll choose what the winner wants. No, but give me some pros and cons of a hard drive versus a SSD. Quote Share this post Link to post
Jamie 2,319 Posted March 15, 2013 <---- has only a HDD, 7200 rpm speed and could not give a crap about SSD's. My old comp was literally a potato, and the speed of this thing right now is still brilliant. Who the hell cares for "LMAO 3 SEC WINDOWS BOOT GG HDDs"? I'm a patient guy Quote Share this post Link to post
Fluxy 1,660 Posted March 15, 2013 SSDs offer more than that Jamie, I don't have one but I know people who do. Speed across your computer will dramaticly increase. Time is money after all, HDDs are on the way out, my advice. Invest in the future which is SSDs. Buy 1 or 2 high capacity SSDs Adam, trust me. Its the better choice. VENGA BUS 2,027 Posted March 15, 2013 SSDs are great, but fucking expensive compared with a normal HD. Also, man: £500 for a graphics card? Fuarkk. Where does your trust fund come from? Can you sign me up for one, please? xo Quote Share this post Link to post
