Daffy Duck 155 Posted February 14, 2013 As you may remember, I had a bit of a monitor mishap a few weeks back which I soon resolved. However, now my computer is starting to fall apart and I've been looking into a new one. What do y'all reckon of this one? http://www.dell.com/uk/p/alienware-x51/ ... enware-x51 Quote Share this post Link to post
Jamie 2,319 Posted February 14, 2013 Don't buy from dell... Let alone Alienware lol. So overpriced. Quote Share this post Link to post
Daffy Duck 155 Posted February 14, 2013 That's a fair point, I'm also looking at ebuyer.com (The same website I got the monitor from) finding some better prices ahahah Just desperately trying to avoid getting Windows 8 Quote Share this post Link to post
Tiny 16 Posted February 14, 2013 Aight, Daff; As Twist said, don't buy from Dell. They're overpriced as shit, as most big brands are. The computer you linked has a good CPU, it'll be quick, but that 1.5gb graphics card is pretty average, so unless you're not planning on buying some of the new games coming out, i'd be looking for an upgrade. What resolution do you play in? A 1.5gb graphics is gonna struggle to run 1920x1080 with high settings. With £600 you can get a much better PC from places like E-Buyer, or if you have the knowledge you could build it yourself. Ordering it in parts and putting it together is normally always cheaper. Edit; I just had a closer look - It lists UPGRADES. The base model actually comes with an I3 processor and 1gb graphics card, and 6gb of RAM. For £600 that's a fucking rip off. Nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope Quote Share this post Link to post
Daffy Duck 155 Posted February 14, 2013 Yeah, that's a fair point. This caught my eye on ebuyer http://www.ebuyer.com/409310-cyberpower ... c-ecc01142 I'm aware it's cheaper to assemble it myself, but I've got a lot going on at the moment (work and wotnot) to be able to do it. http://www.ebuyer.com/390208-samsung-s2 ... 3b300hs-en this is the monitor I already have, so hopefully it'll be a good mix Quote Share this post Link to post
Tiny 16 Posted February 14, 2013 That computer is a little better, i'd still want a better graphics card but it's not bad. As for the CPU, i only know Intel so couldn't comment. You could use the extra 100 leftover to buy better ram, you can pick up 4 sticks of gaming ram on Amazon for 60 - 80 squids. Edit - Here's the list of benchmarks (graphics card comparison) http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html That 7770 did pretty well. Quote Share this post Link to post
Daffy Duck 155 Posted February 14, 2013 Worth the buy and modify later? By the end of next month, I'll have 2 paychecks, birthday money and my yearly bonus to go towards it. Plus, I gotta put a lot to my Australia fund. Quote Share this post Link to post
