M1nt-l0u 1,235 Posted May 15, 2017 (edited) This particular malware only really applies to XP, Vista, and Windows 8.1. As suggested though, make sure Windows Update states that your system is up-to-date. BACKUP YOUR DATA - Have you got irreplaceable documents, photos and videos on your computer? Prioritise those and get them copied to at least 2 locations. Memory sticks are cheap and easy. Backing them up to a free cloud storage account is even easier. TEST YOUR BACKUPS - Did you backup something a while ago? Test it. Are the files complete and all there? Don't be the victim of ransomware if you can prevent it from having an effect on your personal files. You can make your local backup process even easier by using tools like this: https://www.freefilesync.org/ - Setup a task to sync files from one location to another. So every few weeks you can plug in your USB stick and it will backup your selected folders with a few clicks. Edited May 15, 2017 by Mintlou Quote Share this post Link to post

Raw 188 Posted May 15, 2017 It's kinda weird that it had a killswitch built-in. Why should a black hat wants to disarm this piece of malware while he could make tons of money? Not wondering if this is some work of NSA or some famous hacking group. Quote Share this post Link to post
Danny 1,225 Posted May 15, 2017 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-39901382 The news report I was on about. Seems 10/10 relevant. Quote Share this post Link to post

Seems 2 days out of date and no mention of any correlation to funding cuts or May - post score reduced to 5/10 to allow for further clerical errors. Quote Share this post Link to post
